Five neighbours, elected by 1,140 others, run the valley's power.
We own 38 solar roofs on schools and village halls and the small hydro turbine at the old mill weir. The board sets the budget, signs the contracts and answers to members in person once a year.

MO
CHAIR
Margaret Oduya
Retired river engineer who walked the weir survey for the hydro scheme.
Elected 2021 · re-elected 2024
Margaret spent thirty years on the county flood team before she bought shares in our first offer in 2014. She chairs the board and the annual meeting, and still takes the Saturday school groups round the turbine house.
Ask her about the heron that lives on the fish pass.
CR
TREASURER
Callum Rees
Signs off every payment over £500 and writes the plain-English accounts.
Elected 2023 · term runs to 2026
Callum manages a credit union in town and has kept our books since 2019. He moved share interest to a fixed 3% after members voted for it, and answers the treasurer's questions at the AGM without notes.
He lives under one of our first roofs, at the primary school on Mill Lane.
HOW WE'RE GOVERNED
One member, one vote, however many shares you hold.
The board is elected by members at the AGM each November. Directors serve three-year terms, a third stand down each year, and nobody on the board is paid. Minutes and accounts go on the members' page within a month of each meeting.
Next AGM · Thursday 19 November, 7pm, Hebble Vale Village Hall
Keeps the minutes, the members' register and the rule book.
Elected 2022 · re-elected 2025
Anjali is clerk to two parish councils, so she already knew how to run a meeting to time. She sends AGM papers out three weeks ahead and handles share transfers when members move away.
She joined the board after asking one good question too many from the floor.
DH
DIRECTOR, TECHNICAL
Dev Hartigan
Electrician who fitted eleven of our thirty-eight roofs.
Elected 2024 · term runs to 2027
Dev runs a two-van electrical firm and leaves the room whenever we vote on work he could quote for. He leads the yearly check of every array and the hydro control panel, and writes the one-page condition report members receive.
He is training two apprentices from the valley on our roofs.
SK
DIRECTOR, MEMBERS
Sian Kettlewell
Youth worker, and at 27 the youngest person on the board.
Elected 2025 · term runs to 2028
Sian stood on a promise to spend more of the community fund on young people, and now chairs the panel that gives out £18,000 a year in small grants.
She runs a members' drop-in at the library on the first Thursday of each month. Bring your questions, or your bill.
