Architects in Sheffield, working across the Peak and the Pennines

Quiet buildings that age well.

Founded 2011
Nine people
Chartered practice
We design new homes, careful retrofits and small public buildings for people who plan to stay. Most of our work is within an hour of the studio, so we are on site every week, not every month.
Next free feasibility visit: the week of 9 November

What we do

Five ways in, from a first site visit to handover
01

Feasibility and site studies

Before you buy or commit: what the site allows, what planning is likely to accept and an honest first cost range.
4 to 6 weeks
02

New homes

One-off houses and small groups of homes, designed around how you live and built with local contractors we know well.
18 to 30 months
03

Retrofit and extension

Making older houses warm, dry and lighter, with extensions that sit comfortably next to the original building.
9 to 18 months
04

Listed and conservation work

Repairs and careful change to listed buildings, with the heritage statements and consents that come with them.
Set by the consent
05

Community buildings

Libraries, halls and workspaces for trusts and co-ops, including help with funding bids and public consultation.
12 to 36 months

The studio

Cutler's Yard, Sheffield

Nine people in one room above an old cutlery works. We still draw every scheme by hand first.

Every project is led by a director from the first visit to handover. We keep the practice small on purpose, so the person who drew your house is the one standing in it with the builder.

Notes from the drawing board
ESSAY · MARCH 2026 · 12 MIN

What a lime render taught us about damp

The farmhouse at Edale had been sealed in cement render for sixty years. Taking it off, and what we put back, changed how we specify walls on every old building.

GUIDE · FEBRUARY 2026 · 7 MIN

Planning a barn conversion: six questions to ask first

Access, bats, the roof and the neighbours. What we check on the first visit, before anyone draws a line.

Why we still start every scheme with a pencil

A short note on sketchbooks, tracing paper and the drawings clients keep on the fridge.
