DYNAMIC Category and taxonomy grids for Breakdance

Show any taxonomy as a grid or carousel of tiles

Taxonomy Listing displays the terms of any taxonomy, from post categories to WooCommerce product categories and your own custom taxonomies. Each term becomes a tile with its name, count and image, linked to its archive. Choose a grid or a carousel, or design the tile yourself with a Global Block.

Live demos

One element, four ways to list terms

A category grid with images, a blog topic list, a row of topic pills and a carousel, all built with Taxonomy Listing from this site's real categories. Click any tile to open its archive, and hover over the carousel to pause it.

Grid with category images

Shop by pet

Product categories with their WooCommerce thumbnails. Layout: Grid, 3 columns, Image Source: WooCommerce Thumbnail, content at the bottom left and an overlay that turns purple on hover.

List layout

Browse the blog by topic

Post categories in a 1-column grid with short 64px tiles, a light background and the content at the centre left. Sorted by post count, largest first.

Picked terms, your order

Topic pills

Four categories chosen with Include Terms (IDs) and Order By: Include Order, so they appear in the order typed. Hide Count is on and the tiles are 50px pills.

The same element with the same taxonomy as the list on the left. Only the query and tile settings differ.

Carousel

A sliding category strip

Tips & FAQ

Good to know

Does it work with WooCommerce product categories?

Yes. Choose the product category taxonomy and set Image Source to WooCommerce Thumbnail to show each category's image, as in the first and last demos.

Can I show terms as a list?

Yes. Layout offers Grid and Carousel. Set the grid to 1 column and give the tiles a small height, like the topic list above.

Can I choose which terms appear and in what order?

Yes. Type term IDs into Include Terms and set Order By to Include Order. The terms then appear in the order you typed. You can also exclude terms, hide empty ones or show only top-level terms.

Can I use my own custom taxonomy?

Yes. Any registered taxonomy appears in the Taxonomy list.

Can I design the tiles myself?

Yes. Set Tile Mode to Global Block and build the tile in a Global Block. Use the Taxonomy Term dynamic data to show the term name, description, image, count and link.

Can I show only the categories of the current post?

Yes. Set Terms To Show to Current Post's Terms. It lists the terms assigned to the post being viewed, or the current loop item.
